Rich Airey is a Running and Strength coach hailing from the Point Pleasant NJ. He got his start as a runner at the age of 5, running his first 5 mile race. Growing up at the Jersey Shore running and wrestling Rich earned All-County and All-Conference honors in 3 sports. As a Junior College All-American he earned a scholarship to Monmouth University where he was the school record holder at 10,000 meters and the Northeast Conference Steeplechase Champion. Since graduation Rich continued to compete in races of all distances from 1 mile to 100 mile Ultra Marathons, most recently finishing 7th at the 2015 Leadville Trail Marathon.
Since 1998 Rich has been coaching runners of all levels. He has coached and worked with several High School All-Americans, NCAA qualifiers and Olympic Trials Qualifiers. As a running coach Rich has always incorporated strength training with his athletes.
Rich is a USAW Level 1 Coach and CrossFit Level 1 Coach and has coached at several gyms around the Country. In addition, Rich travels the country teaching running seminars lecturing on mechanics and the importance of Strength Training for healthy running and longevity.
In 2011, he created RunningWOD.com to further help runners understand the benefits of strength & conditioning training to enhance endurance performance. RunningWOD balances volume and intensity, strategically planning running and strength & conditioning training together to allow athletes reach their full potential.
